Piece by Piece

A few weekend ago we ordered our glider from Babies R Us. It came in last week and we picked it up Sunday afternoon. This project was much faster than the desk! It only took a short time to assemble and we had a glider! This is the glider that Justin picked out. Of course, he's not happy with the color of the cushions (doesn't think they "go with the room") but he will get over it because he choose the color of the wood and there was not a choice of cushion colors. Justin picked this particular one, even though it was more expensive, because when he sat in it, he could lean his head back and rest it on the cushion. The other gliders we tested out were too short for him. It really is a comfy glider and I can just see myself having to go in and take Hannah out of Justin's arms, place her in the crib, and then wake Justin up to send him to bed. I'm surprised I haven't found him in there already! We're leaving the little tiny TV in the room for now so Justin can rock, feed, etc... while watching the news. The TV will come out once our nightly routine changes :).

Hannah's Room

I finally ordered the bedding for Hannah's room. I've been looking at it for months, and knew it's what I wanted. I ordered it last weekend. It's from Pottery Barn Kids and I only ordered the crib bumper, the quilt and the curtains. I'm hoping to find everything else I need at other, cheaper places. I was totally distraught though when I did order it. The bumper was no problem and it even arrived this week. The curtains are back ordered until the end of this week (not a huge problem), but the quilt is back ordered until June! Hannah will be here before her quilt is! Luckily she won't be needing it anytime soon. Several people have been asking me about the colors for her room, so here is a picture, and the link will take you to the other products on Pottery Barn's website. The bumper is solid yellow on the inside, with green gingham trim, green background and flowers on the front. The quilt is what has the most variety of colors. Her room is already painted blue, so I think it's all going to blend together nicely! Now if we can just find a crib we like, that actually has gotten good reviews, we'd be making some progress.

Another Item Crossed Off "The List"

Getting ready for Hannah's arrival involves much more than getting her room ready. We've had a list of things that had to be done before her nursery could be done. I've already posted the first major project, the closets. Yesterday Justin and I completed (nearly) the second huge step. This step has taken a while, but is almost done. Hannah's room was formally the guest room and then the third room was the office. The first thing we had to do was clean out the office (which was entirely my job, since it was my junk). Justin put some shelves in a closet in the FROG for my scrapbook stuff, I threw away several bags full, and set aside two full boxes of stuff for the Miller Flea Market day (coming this spring to the local Barnyard Flea Market). After the room was cleared of junk, Justin took apart the queen guest bed and moved it into the office. Our office was so crazy. We have a wonderful, comfortable office chair (courtesy of Jaime) but it wouldn't push under the little desk I bought my first year teaching. Our printer was on the floor and office supplies were spilling out everywhere. Here is the "before" picture.Together we picked out a desk (from Furniture Pointe in Lexington, I highly recommend it) bought it and spend hours putting it together. We then decided a week later that the hutch on top of the desk would work and give us more storage space, so yesterday we went back and purchased the hutch component. Only a few short hours later, we had a finished product! Here is the "after" picture.We still need to fix a few things, like the cabinet part that fits the computer tower. Our tower is too long so the door won't shut. We also need to hang the pictures on the wall. But for all practical purposes, the room is done! On to the next item...

Snow Day?

I have to say that I was disappointed that we had a snow day today, especially after already having a 4 day weekend. I was hoping that we would just have a two hour delay, and then we wouldn't have to make the day up. Keep your fingers crossed that the day will be pardoned! Otherwise, the only day off we have until Spring Break is in March and that will be our make-up day. It's going to be a loooooooong stretch until Easter. Hannah will almost be here by then! The snow was pretty to look at, but didn't amount to much of anything. We could have easily been at school.

My cell phone died yesterday. I don't mean just the battery. I mean the whole thing died. I was talking to Justin one minute, delivering dinner to some friends in Sunday School (who we convinced to start a baby blog too!) and when I left I took my phone out of my purse to make a call and it was dead. I can't tell you how helpless I felt without it. It's amazing how much comfort a phone can bring you. I had no way to reach anyone. We don't have a house phone either. I was worried because I knew today Justin would be out driving in the "snow" and I would have no way to check up on him. It turns out, Justin volunteered to come home today! He was back at the house by 9:30 and we headed off to Verizon. It feels great to have a new phone. Verizon couldn't do anything with my dead one. They transferred all of Justin's contact list onto my new phone, and that helps some, but I am still missing a TON of phone numbers. You may want to shoot me an email and call my phone so I can have your number back.

Growth Spurt

It's amazing what just one week can do! I wish I had taken a picture last week to compare. The difference is amazing. I guess I should start taking pictures weekly now, instead of monthly since things are changing so quickly!

Updates

Well, registering went well. We were still there for almost 3 hours, but it wasn't too bad. That store is HUGE! For almost everything I need exactly what I wanted. We only had a few decisions to make and that made things much easier. Our registry is now online, minus a few things. There were several things (like the play mat and swing) that I didn't see there, that I saw online and of course the ones I researched and found online are the ones that I want! Thank you so much to all the girls who helped me out with my list. It was SO very helpful and even Justin didn't think it was so bad!

I had a check up today and everything was great. I was in a bit of shock when I stepped on the the scale, but only because up until December I had only gained 3 pounds. I have now gained back all that I lost when I was so sick earlier in the pregnancy. I haven't gained any extra yet, but I know that's coming! The Dr. said my weight gain this month was very healthy. My blood pressure was great and the babies heart rate was excellent. Overall, a very good report. I get to go for my sugar test next time (Feb. 9) so keep your fingers crossed!

A Weekend of Babies

I got a phone call this morning from our friend Adam. He needed us to keep his little baby Madeline while he got measured for a suite for a wedding. Of course, I said yes. I kept my fingers crossed though because the last time I kept her (by myself, Justin was at work) she screamed the whole time and 2 nasty diaper explosions. It wasn't until Adam dropped her off that he told us he was supposed to get this done last night but Ali and Patrick were keeping Madeline and she screamed the whole time (see Ali's Thoughts for some cute pictures from their night together).

Fortunately Madeline was great! We had a great time together. Justin immediately went to her and took her out of her car seat and played with her while I got his breakfast together, he just did it and was enjoying himself. It was so great to see Justin playing with the little girl. He never hesitates to pick her up and play with her. I know he's going to instantly fall in love with Hannah, after seeing him so cozy with Madeline.

Kodak, on the other the other hand, was quite jealous, but was very loving toward the baby. He did "hit" me to get my attention, but at least he was very sweet to Madeline. He is going to have a huge transition ahead of him.

Tomorrow we are going to see Beth H. get baptised. It's hard to believe that only 2 years ago I was videotaping her big brother Austin's baptism. I can't wait to see their little family up in front of the church together.

After the Baptism, we are heading to Babies R Us to start our registry. I have been doing a ton of research and have WONDERFUL friends and co-workers who have given me so much help. Hopefully the process won't be too terrible painful. Say a little prayer for Justin though. I know what all a baby needs and everything that were are going to look at, but no matter how I try to prepare him, I know Justin is going to be completely overwhelmed. I'll try to give a registering update soon!

New Year Brings New Changes

This year will be bringing plenty of changes and it has already started. Justin and I had a very productive holiday season. With the help of his parents we were finally able to transform our closets. This HAD to be done before any other room changes could be made. Our master bedroom closest was truly pathetic. I had taken over the guest room closest (soon to be Hannah's room) and Justin had filled up the office closest (soon to be the guest room/office). In order for Hannah to have a closet of her own, changes needed to be made. Justin worked really hard the past few weekends to accomplish this. Hannah now has her own closet with two levels of hangers and Justin and I can now fit most (the office closet is still full) of our own clothes in our tiny little closet. The first day of 2009 we got some more progress made. We took apart the guest bed and moved it into the office. Hannah has a room now! She has a bookcase (that my dad bought me when I was a baby) and a dresser. I did take a before picture, but we'll have to wait a while to compare the two. Now it's just time to shop around!

2009 - A Great Year To Come

It's 2009! It is so hard to believe, but another year is here already. This year is going to be full of excitement and changes. Hannah will be born sometime this year and I will be turning 30. My birthday is not exactly what I'm looking forward to, but I do think that it's cool that Hannah and I will be 30 years apart. Justin will have no excuse not to remember how old we both are. We are so excited about her arrival and know that it will make 2009 a special year.
