3 months old

Posted by Picasa.

At 3 months Hayden:
  • cries (more like screams) continuously in the car seat, no matter how long he's in it. It makes dropping Hannah off and picking her up from school a fun daily chore
  • Can go from 8:30 until about 6:00 at  night without eating, unfortunately most nights he wakes up multiple times for some attention (but not always to eat)
  • smiles a lot, especially for his big sister
  • still takes medicine for reflux
  • doesn't sleep much at all during the day (although the day he turned 3 months he took a 3 hour nap - it was so unusual I was a little nervous the whole time!)
  • adores his big sister
  • rolls onto his side, but not very often
  • now hates to be on his tummy (this is a recent development so maybe rolling over will actually happen sooner than I was anticipating)
  • is around 11 pounds
  • wears 0-3 month clothing and a few 3 month outfits
  • has his hands in his mouth constantly
  • likes to play with one of his multiple "loveys"
  • bears weight on his legs for extended periods of time
  • likes to be in the sitting or standing position
  • "talks" quite a bit
  • notices and plays around with the toys on his playmat
  • poops only once every few days, and it's enormous!
  • still eats around every 2 hours during the day
I may come back and do some editing and add to the list as time allows, but my 15 minute nap time is over, so I am going to leave you with a side by side picture of my two babies.

pumpkin patch 2012

not quite as thrilled as his big sister to be at the pumpkin patch

the perfect pumpkin
Nana came to be my assistant, thank goodness :)
We happily adopted 2 "Jacks" (named from one of her favorite Halloween books) from the Homeless Pumpkin Patch. It's the same place I've taken Hannah for the past 3 years. Next year we may try to go to an actual farm with a hayride, etc... It was too much this year with sweet little Hayden.

In Hannah's story, Pumpkin Jack, the little boy puts his jack-o-lantern in his room at night, all lit up. Hannah was very disappointed that I said no to her Jack being in her room. Nana put our fake plug-in pumpkin in her room at bedtime, but after the lights were off Hannah decided that Jack didn't put off enough light and she was better off with her butterfly nightlight. Here is her favorite Halloween book. I highly recommend it. It's really the lifecycle of a pumpkin, but Hannah LOVES it.

red ribbon week

Crazy sock day. Of course, we had to wear an outfit that would make the socks really stand out :)

red day - the fire hat stayed in the car, much to Hannah's dismay

Mix-Match day - this was her favorite, can you tell from the smile and the pose?

I forgot to get an individual picture before leaving the house Friday morning, but it was favorite sports team. She looked really cute

Hannah thoroughly enjoyed her first Red Ribbon Week at school. She couldn't wait to find out what to wear for the next day. She's going to be highly disappointed when she finds out there is nothing special to dress up like next week! Wednesday was school picture day, so there wasn't a crazy picture to share. We just had Picture People pictures taken, so I didn't pre-order pictures for her and we didn't go all out for pictures. She still looked cute though as I supposed she'll be in the yearbook (which we will not be buying anyway).

Some recent pictures, since I'm so slack in updating...

He really does love his sister, but his faces around her are pretty entertaining :)

Believe it or not, Hannah took this picture with my big camera. I was quite impressed. She may end up with her mommy's love of photography.

Yes, our son has a purple Bumbo, and pink pacies, hopefully his therapy won't be too expensive...

SC State Fair

Yes, we are those people who take an infant to the fair. Hannah loves the fair and can't get enough of the rides and Justin and I both wanted to be there with her, so Hayden was along for the ride. He did very well strapped to me (and Justin for a brief amount of time), but then again that's his favorite position to be in anyway. He actually took a few naps, which is unusual, so we were pleased. Our experience this year wasn't quite as grand as last year due to changed circumstances, however we still had fun and Hannah got to ride enough rides (half price until 1:00) that she never complained. She only complained when we didn't buy ice cream (she did get a cookie...) and promised to get some on the way home. She fell asleep on the way so we skipped it, and our evening was ruined when she woke up and found no ice cream. Trust me, it wasn't pretty :(.
Can you believe Daddy fit?

She would ride the swings all day if she could

she loved the petting zoo

the carousel is an absolute favorite

First Dentist Appointment

Last week Hannah finally went to the dentist (and I"m finally posting). She was late, late, late getting teeth and late getting a full set, so we saw no need (backed up by the ped.) to take her until now. She was super excited to go and we'd been playing "dentist" with her babies for several weeks. The week before her appointment the tooth fairy wrote her class a note and left them all goodie bags so she was already going tooth crazy. She is desperate for a wiggly tooth, but I think I've talked her out of that. She was a super brave girl and smiled the entire time we were there. She loved the animal theme in the office and had to get her picture taken with all of the animals that we could manage.

Fortunately, Nana came to keep Hayden so Mommy and Hannah could have some girl time. We have had very few opportunities since he's been born, for just the two of us to be together. We went to McDonalds for some yogurt and apples (free coupons!) and the playplace and then managed a trip to BiLo before dropping her off at school. She was even excited about the grocery store because she got to ride in the Police car cart (which doesn't happen when Hayden is along) and got to have a cookie. It was a jam packed morning, but some good quality time together, not to mention some very healthy teeth!

Our Little Peanut

According to our neighbor  (who's son is 2 weeks younger and about 4 times bigger than Hayden) Hayden is just a little peanut. I guess he is according to the doctors too.

At his 2 month appointment his stats were:
weight  - 9 pounds, 10 ounces = 4th %
height - 22.5 inches = 30th %
head - 15 cm = 30th %

We knew he was skinny, has been since birth (only lost like 3 ounces in the hospital). Hannah was too, so we're prepared for that. We thought he was much longer (and I did a faulty measuring job myself too). Believe it or not, Hannah was 10.5 pounds at two months and we were having to wake her up every 3 hours at night to eat. We aren't waking Hayden up to eat at night (he eats every 2 hours during the day) and when I saw the % I thought that was our fate again, but the doctor said he's healthy and we won't worry about it for now, unless he continues to go down in percentages. Here are Hayden and Hannah's 2 month pictures to compare. They definitely look related, don't you think?

Hayden at 2 months:

  •  is not a good sleeper, but he tends to sleep better at night than naps during the day
  • takes Zantac twice a day for his reflux - it's helped some...
  • likes to be snuggled close - gets "worn" on me with my Moby wrap quite often
  • likes pacifiers and sucking on his fists, and on Mommy!
  • eats every 2 hours during the day
  • will take a bottle of expressed milk and isn't picky on the temperature, he'll even take it from Mommy but wants cuddle time afterward!
  • smiles a lot and tried to laugh
  • "talks" making several different sounds
  • has no interest in tummy time - he turns his head to the side, sticks his legs under him and gets comfy
  • will occasionally turn on his side, but doesn't lay flat very often due to the reflux
  • tolerates his sister extremely well
  • has great head/neck control
  • loves to be naked - and has only shot Nana with Pee
  • Loves to take baths and smiles big when he hears the water turn on, even for Mommy to wash dishes
  • only cries/fusses if he's tired, hungry, or sitting in his car seat waiting in the car rider line for Hannah
  • is in between NB and 3 month clothing
