The Cousins Meet

With Nana
Aunt Kate asked me to sneak onto her blog so that I could tell everyone HAPPY BIRTH DAY HAYDEN! My new little cousin Hayden Benjamin was born this afternoon at 1:15pm. He weighs 7lbs 1oz and is 20 inches long. I was so excited to go and meet my new cousin! Aunt Kate was telling mommy the story of Hayden's birth with some of its twists and turns, but we agreed that Aunt Kate should tell you about that herself. Because I know a lot of you are curious, I will give you a teaser: no Cesarean needed! I knew my cousin would make it without one :-) Just know that mom and baby are both doing well (daddy and Big Sister Hannah too); currently enjoying some well deserved rest.

I am so excited for Hayden and I to grow and play together! We might be causing some trouble soon....

Love,

Big Cousin Amelia

Super Sibling Hannah & Hayden Update

Nurse Hannah

taking her turn playing with the buttons on "Mommy's bed"

Hannah was already an expert at putting on diapers

Look, I'm a Super Sibling!

Last Thursday night, Hannah and I went to the hospital for the (free) Super Sibling class they offer. She was so excited about going to "her class". It's for 3 year olds and older and amazingly enough 8 out of the 11 kids there were 3! Hannah really felt like it was a class just for her. Of the eight soon to be born babies, 7 are to be girls and Hayden was the only boy. Pretty good odds for our little guy :)  I would recommend this class to any (little) future sibling. They got to walk around the hospital dressed like a nurse, see the babies in the nursery, go into a room and explore (and play with the buttons on the bed, a most favorite part for all), and then got lessons on how to hold a baby, diaper a baby,  swaddle a baby, wash their hands, etc.. They watched a video and read a book and learned a lot. They even got a snack, a picture, and a certificate. What could be better for a 3 year old! I'm really glad we did the class, and I know that Hannah soaked it all up, as she is still talking about it (when you're in your room mommy...).

Now for a Hayden update: I had my 38 week appointment today (today I turned 38 weeks) and got some interesting news. Apparently the modified bed rest really did work because I haven't done that this week (still rested of course, I've just done some of my normal activities as well) and went from 2 cm to almost 4 cm! She said I'm closer to 4 than 3 and if someone else checked me that might just say 4. 2 cm in a week. Not bad. Justin pointed out that I am almost halfway there, without all the terrible pain. Don't get me wrong, I've got aches and pains, plenty of them, just none that I've been able to designate as "contraction" yet. I'm still 80% effaced, which she said would quickly turn to 100% during active labor as my cervix is very soft. The baby is also fully engaged at a -3. She pushed on him a little and he didn't budge out of my pelvis so she thinks he's there to stay this time (had been "floating" before now). She was very encouraged by my progress and seems very hopeful that my desire for a VBAC will work. She says most VBAC candidates don't even get this far in the process during active labor. We'll see. The stinky news is, there is no predicting when he's coming. It could be tonight or he could still be late, depending on how comfortable he is where he is. I'm hoping for sooner rather than later :). Let's go baby Hayden!!!!

Hannah's quote of the day

We were in the car coming home from Hannah's library Music & Movement class.  She had just finished a little snack that I'd packed and this is what she says to me.

"Mommy, I'm famished. Can I have some more snack?"

What 3 year old says that???????

Happy Birthday Daddy! (and update)

Hannah ran into the bathroom while Justin was getting ready this morning and said, with a big huge hug, "It's your birthday Daddy!" and then ran out. I had to remind her to actually wish him Happy Birthday. Poor guy is sweating it out in the UPS truck. Hopefully it won't be a long day and he can find some time to relax (inside in the air!). Luckily he has tomorrow off, but I'm sure the relaxing part won't happen, knowing him.

Went to the doctor today, and my "resting" is working. I did progress to 70% effaced but am still only at 1 cm, so we consider that to have worked. I was really worried she would say "complete bed rest" and I wasn't sure how that was going to happen! I go back next Wednesday, at 37 weeks and then it's whatever goes, and we won't be worried about my activity levels.
